Social Media Engagement Questions You Should Be Asking.

Did you know that Social Media Engagement is important because almost 60% of consumers are engaging with their favorite brands on social media? Not just once or twice, but it can be up to 3 times a day. And if they’re satisfied, they go off and recommend that brand to their friends and family.

Do you find yourself staring at your social feeds wishing you had more engagement? Most business owners are in the same boat because social media is an important part of every well-rounded content marketing strategy.

Follower counts are important, but what would you rather have: ten thousand followers doing absolutely nothing, or 1,000 members actively engaging in their own little community? I know which one I would pick.

Building up follower numbers is important, but it’s probably more important to get the conversation started. Use these fun questions to ask on social media and start building strong, long-lasting, and profitable relationships with your community today.

Stir up Emotions With Fun Questions to Ask on Social Media

social media engagement questions

Feelings are the driving force behind social media. People visit their favorite platforms and share stuff because it tugs on their heartstrings, surprises them, makes them laugh, makes them sad, or even makes them angry.

Social media can be a hotbed of emotions when certain topics are brought up, but you don’t want to stir the pot and twist your fun conversation into a heated debate.

Keep the tone light. Stick to funny or surprising questions.

Nostalgia can also be used to fire up a few ideas for fun questions to ask on social media and often inspires readers into leaving a like or a comment. A question that triggers a walk down memory lane is often appreciated.

Think about the social media content ideas you last posted on any of your channels. It’s a good bet that you had some emotional connection to it; otherwise, you wouldn’t have taken the time and effort to share it with your friends and followers.

Ideas for great social media content, especially the stuff that will inspire people into sharing, liking, and following, can be hard to come by. A lot of business owners mistakenly think that every post has to be about their business, but this can get real boring real fast.

You want people to take action on your post, so how people respond to it is more important than the actual content. Naturally, you would like your followers to share all of your business posts, but on social media (Facebook in particular), any engagement is better than none at all.

Ask Engaging Questions, Get Valuable Insights

Don’t be afraid to ask engaging questions. It’s one of the best ways to get people talking, and people love telling the world about themselves. When you’ve got a few followers chatting about themselves, you’re well on your way to fostering a thriving, active community.

More Benefits From Asking Questions

The answers you receive to your questions are valuable from a market research point of view. A correctly worded question will reveal your market’s most significant pain point. And don’t be afraid to let talk about your competitors filter into the conversation; the information your followers reveal could be invaluable for developing a competing strategy.

Be a Part of the Social Media Conversation

When your goal on social media is to start a conversation, you want to make sure you’re around to take part. You can use a scheduler to send you alerts when a post goes online. However, most online social media calendars have a monthly subscription cost. A budget approach is to use your phone and set the alarm when content is due to go live.

You will also need to be actively checking your social media profiles – if you don’t, the conversation will get one-sided. Your contributions will increase the engagement levels, which prompts the platform’s algorithm into giving your post more exposure.

Styling Your Social Media Posts

BuzzSumo pored over more than one million blog posts to find the perfect ratio of images to text and came up with some surprising results. All bloggers know that pictures are necessary to get more shares, but until now, no one could lay claim to knowing the exact formula.

As it turns out, articles with images every 75-100 words received twice as many shares as articles with fewer. What I find intriguing is that blog posts sitting nicely in the sweet spot also scored 30 more shares on average than articles with MORE pictures.

I digress, but I just wanted to highlight the importance of images when trying to get more shares for your content, because it appears they are more potent than most of us thought.

BuzzSumo’s report also highlighted that Facebook posts with an image that is accompanied by 75-100 words of text receive between seven and 45 more shares. Many of us would happily hand over large chunks of change to get that sort of engagement. (source)

It’s easy to spice up your social media engagement questions with an image. For instance, “what’s your favorite season” can be jazzed up with an image that radiates summer warmth, or shows a cozy winter fire.

And you should have no trouble finding stock images depicting delicious meals, travel destinations, socks with sandals, or anything else for that matter.

Style Your Social Media Posts

We know from past research that posts with images receive more clicks and likes but this doesn’t mean you need fantastic graphic design skills, nor do you have to hire an expensive service to make your social media content more eye-catching.

Canva is a free-to-use graphic design site that allows you to quickly come up with attractive designs to make social media posts stand out. Other options include paying a custom designer – but that can get expensive.

If you are on a tight marketing budget and have trouble making your own designs, you still have options.

There are quite a few marketing services that have ready-made packs you can use that are affordable and look great.

Many will include the original files so you can change up the text if you have the right graphics program.

Social Media Questions to Increase Engagement

Getting likes is a trip for the ego; always keep in mind that engagement is the real money maker. Asking questions of your audience is by far the most effective way to spark a conversation, increase participation, and build a community.

Now you’re probably wondering how you can come up with questions to ask on Facebook day after day which will resonate with and get a response from your followers. As with most things, it’s easier when you create a system.

You will be able to come up with an unlimited number of questions by using the following categories as a guide. When inspiration fails to strike, rather than stare at a blank post in frustration, use these fill-in-the-blank type questions to fire up your creative flame.

SO… what are some ideas for getting people to respond?
